Geriatric Counseling

Senior counseling focuses on age-related situations and lifelong struggles. For seniors who are dealing with the loss of a spouse, child, or lifelong friend, it can be challenging. Other issues associated with the aging process can include the loss of your physical health or independence. If you are suffering from depression, anxiety, or stress, our goal is to help make your life easier. Our office proudly accepts Medicare.

Children and Adolescent Counseling

Children and adolescents feel and express their emotional distress in different ways. Some may show anger or aggression, while another child may withdraw from learning and friends. Negative behaviors such as aggression, alcohol, drugs, eating disorders, self-harm, or depression can take a significant toll on your child’s emotional, social, and intellectual development. Child and adolescent therapy addresses underlying psychological problems and provides coping skills to help your child lead a healthy lifestyle.

Family Sessions

We offer family counseling for all families, including traditional families, blended families, and members of families “by choice.” Family dynamics can be complicated and create stress and isolation. Family therapy helps your family express their emotions in a safe and controlled environment. Through family dialogue and coping strategies, we aim to help provide lasting solutions for a successful family dynamic.

Marriage/Couples Counseling

We offer marriage and couples counseling for married couples, couples who live together, and couples in committed relationships who live apart. Couples searching for tools to cultivate a healthier relationship can benefit from counseling.

Trauma

The clinicians at Haven Behavioral Health help our patients recover from emotional trauma and PTSD. We focus on addressing the mental, behavioral, and emotional impacts on children and adults who have suffered from a traumatic physical or emotional event. Our clinicians have decades of experience to help you or your child cope and recover.

Sandplay Therapy

Sandplay is “hands-on” psychological work and is an adjunct to talk therapy. It is a powerful therapeutic method that facilitates the psyche’s natural capacity for healing. In a “free and protected” space provided by a trained sandplay therapist, the client creates a concrete manifestation from their imagination using sand, water, and miniature objects.

Play Therapy

Play therapy allows individuals to express and communicate through play behavior. It is designed for children with emotional, behavioral, or social issues. It is a non-directive form of therapy, which means that the therapist does not direct the child’s play but allows the child to lead the play session while observing and interacting with the child. Play therapy is beneficial for children and young teens.

Psychotherapy Helps People:

  • Understand the behaviors, emotions, and ideas contributing to their illness and learn how to modify them.
  • Understand and identify life problems or events -- like a significant illness, a death in the family, a loss of a job, or a divorce -- that contribute to their illness and help them understand which aspects of those problems they may be able to solve or improve.
  • Regain a sense of control and pleasure in life.
  • Learn healthy coping techniques and problem-solving skills.
